Who we are

Ultrasound services first arrived in Aylmer in 1990 in the form of a portable machine, one
or two days per week.

The service has grown into a comprehensive, full time clinic serving the doctors, nurse practitioners and midwives of Elgin County and the surrounding areas.

Located in the Aylmer Medical Center, our service boasts high quality digital imaging equipment to provide accurate and timely information for our patients and referring practitioners.

Make “The Sound Choice.” All this friendly, professional service with little to NO wait time!

Laurie Annaert

Owner, Sonographer

Laurie is trained as both an X-ray technologist and an Ultrasonographer and has over 35 years of experience in the profession. She has an extensive Pinterest account, can play the Hanukkah Song on the guitar, and is learning German from her Mennonite patients. When not catering to her family, she can be found on her paddle board, or her Harley Davidson motorcycle, which she has ridden across the USA.

DR. WALTER ROMANO

RADIOLOGIST

Walt is our dedicated radiologist with 28 years of experience in Diagnostic Medical Imaging, with a fellowship/specialty in Ultrasound. He is a self acknowledged workaholic who enjoys spending his spare time working. He appreciates a nice car, and will watch Dancing with the Stars when forced to by his wife. He is a loving Nonno who can’t get enough pasta.

NATASHA QUIN

SONOGRAPHER

Natasha was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and has wanted to be a sonographer since grade 11. She specializes in Musculoskeletal ultrasound and is now known as the “younger sonographer”. She is Super-mom to her two children, and paints and does school projects in her free time. She is a gourmet food and wine critic and has recently been published in the Canadian Journal of Medical Sonography.

SUE MCTAVISH

SONOGRAPHER

Sue is an accomplished sonographer who also has many years of experience in the field of medical imaging.

She likes her coffee black and her nails fancy. She is an avid reader, and spoiler of her grandchildren.

SHARON PEPPER-MAY

TRANSCRIPTIONIST

Sharon is a retired Obstetrical and Paediatric Nurse who is entrusted to type our ultrasound reports with speed and accuracy. She is pursuing her Masters degree in her free time and reads 20 books per year on her front porch. She has never met a cat she didn’t love, and can say “where do you keep the chocolate” in three languages including Klingon.

SHELLEY DERRIG

RECEPTIONIST & BOOKINGS

Shelley is a Pharmacy Assistant who we are lucky enough to have as our office manager. She keeps us all on track, answers about 100 phone calls per day and tends to all scheduling of appointments. She loves Aylmer Ultrasound so much that she moved closer to work. Known for her dessert making skills and her epic Christmas parties, she loves camping, and spending time with her sweet grand babies.

AND ABOUT THAT FULL BLADDER… A full bladder allows us to examine the mucosal surface, look for stones or tumours and allows evaluation of the uterus, ovaries, adnexa, and the prostate, and of course see the baby. The uterus and ovaries often benefit from the addition of a vaginal ultrasound. Vaginal sonography is the gold standard for measuring the endometrium.
